New digs

I was going through a weird kind of funk. It started when I was pregnant with my daughter. It's lasted about...9 years. Yeah. That's a long funk by anyone's standards, I'm guessin'.

But something happened to me a couple of weeks ago & just kicked me in the butt & said "What in the world are you thinking?" I'm not quite sure what it was. Maybe I've realized that out of my daughter's 9 years here on this earth, I am in maybe a handful of photos with her. I'm probably in even less photos with my son. And that just breaks my heart, because they are the sweetest & most beautiful children in the world & I'd hate to think that one day they'll grow up & go through the photo albums and wonder..."hmmm...where's Mom?"

The first thing I did was go get my hair done. Now they say that perms are becoming popular again, but honestly, my hair only looks good when it's curly. I'm not one who can rock a head of straight, glistening locks. Nope. Curls are it for me. So I got my hairs permed. ;)

Then I went out and bought some new clothes. You know, I think these are the only clothes I've bought myself in the last....11 years....that didn't come from Walmart or worn already by 4 different women (Goodwill) & hand-me-downs from my grandma. Yeah. You read that right. I wore my grandma's hand-me-downs. I'm not proud of that, no, but just stating facts. So this mini-shopping-spree was a big deal for me. I only bought, like, 2 pairs of jeans & a few shirts & a pair of shoes, but I'm tellin' ya, I felt like I was really breaking loose! Oh...I also bought jewelry. Not alot, but enough to feel like million bucks :).

And I don't know what happened, but I think it did something to my husband, too. Because right after I started doing my hair & make-up and getting excited about getting dressed (no more sweats!! at least not when leaving the house...), well, he went out and bought me a diamond ring (ahem...a $2500 ring!!)!!

A lot of people don't know this, but Antonio and I eloped. Sort of. I mean, it wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. We had talked about getting married. We had planned on doing it at the court house. And we still did that, but the day that we picked was spur-of-the-moment. I just woke up one morning & said "Babe, I don't want to wait another day. You have the day off & we've got a hundred bucks...want to go get married today?" So we did. We didn't have any rings...I didn't even wear a dress! We both wore jeans & t-shirts. I'm betting the magistrate never thought we'd be together long enough to see our 6-month wedding anniversary, let alone a 6-year anniversary! (yes, we got married after the kids...a fact I'm not too proud of)

My grandparents sent us some money when we told them the good news. Well, it was good news to us. To them, they were probably thinking along the same lines as the magistrate. But anyways, we took the money & went to a mall kiosk & bought a couple of wedding bands. Nothing fancy. Just plain gold. But they meant a lot to us. Actually, it made me really sad that I can't fit my new ring set (it also came with a small, thin gold band) on my finger with my old band. But I'm gonna go get my first band resized so they can all reside happily on my finger together :).

So, yeah, back to the point. Apparently, caring about my appearance is working for me :). And it only took me (almost) a decade! But better late than never, right?

**UPDATE...January 17, 2016: As I am going through reading all of these old posts...I thought I would bring it to your attention that 9 months after this post, I gave birth to baby #3, Austin. hahaha Guess Antonio liked my makeover more than initially thought.... ::wink::
