Castor Oil For Healthy Shiny Hair!
So, you all know what a fan of coconut oil I am.
I put that sh*t on everything.
But I've decided to expand on to other oils.
This time I tried castor oil on my hair.
Castor oil has amazing health benefits: it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. It is a natural antiseptic. Which means that it can help to rid your head of that troublesome culprit called dandruff. It fights off scalp infections. It smoothes rough hair cuticles, reducing split ends and frizz. It contains omega-6 essential fatty acids and ricinoleic acid that helps to accelerate the blood circulation in the scalp, helping hair to grow faster. The nutrients help the hair to be thicker and fuller. Because it is so thick, however, you may want to mix it with another oil, such as coconut oil, almond oil or jojoba oil. I was out of coconut oil, so I just used straight-up casor oil.
Here's what I did:
I wet down my hair first. Emollients lock in moisture, so wetting it down not only made the castor oil more easy to apply but also gave it additional moisture to seal in.
I clipped it up to keep it from getting oil all over everything.
I applied heat to it (with a blow dryer) for about a minute, just to help the oil penetrate better.
Then I went and cooked dinner.
(Moms, you know how well we do at multi-tasking!)
And I ate dinner.
And I let it sit for around 2 hours.
Then I showered, washing my hair 3 times. I don't know if that was excessive but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to end up looking like an oily mess when I got out!
Then I put in a regular conditioner and rinsed it out a few minutes later.
After my shower, I wrapped my head in an old t-shirt (I no longer use towels on my hair...they cause too much frizz).
I let my hair air dry...and waited to see what happened.
It looked great! No oily mess! My hair is super soft and full.
I just wet it down in the morning and styled it.
But I forgot to take a picture of it...until this morning. haha
So, here it is, in all it's bedhead glory:

hahaha...I wrapped myself up in a blanket so you couldn't see my jammies |
But I think you can see that it's not all oily or weighed down.
I am so happy with it.
It is important to use cold-pressed and cold-processed castor oil.
That ensures that the oil keeps as much of the original nutrients as possible.
I got mine off of Amazon...but maybe you can find some locally!
