Going Green: No More Sippy Cups

These are the 12-oz stainless steel bottles we bought for our preschool-age boys!

Like most young kids, my youngest boys loved their sippy cups.

And, let's face it, so did I.

They could drink out of cups without spilling it all over themselves or my couch.

No worrying about their poking out any eyeballs while trying to drink from a straw in the car.

But, lately, I've been thinking about all the really dangerous chemicals that they use to make the plastic that their sippy cups were made out of.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard of the dangers of BPA (bisphenol A). BPA is used in plastics, to line cans and even to coat receipt paper!

Now the BPA manufacturers have gone to great lengths and paid A LOT of money to get people to say that BPA is safe. But it's not. It mimics estrogen, for one thing. Which leads to hormone problems and diseases such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain impairments, reproductive problems and other deadly diseases.

Scientists who had proven that it was dangerous have even gone on the record to say that these chemical companies have contacted them and asked what would it take to get them to say that it's not dangerous. Other less scrupulous scientists took the payment and have since took back their original findings and now say that BPA is safe. I'm not buying it. Are you?

Most people think that the solution would be to buy the now highly marketed "BPA Free" plastic products. But, really, those have been proven to contain chemicals that are even MORE deadly than BPA! (this link explains further)

Seriously. If it can turn a male frog into a female, there is something NOT RIGHT. What is it going to do, what kind of damages, to our kids?

So I made the decision to switch to stainless steel. And I love it!!

My boys love their new cups, too! Even my big kids and Antonio and I want to buy ourselves some of the larger ones to take with us when we're out and about, running errands and whatnot.
